The World Council of Optometry (WCO) announced that it has launched a search for the International Optometrist of the Year for 2012. The award, presented to an optometrist who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the profession worldwide, was last given posthumously to Tom Little, OD, who was killed in August 2010 while leading a humanitarian health mission in Afghanistan, according to the organization,.
